[Guest Blog] Presenting at the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) 2023 Conference - by Adama Samura

The Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) hosted its Annual Conference on-line from Feb 14-15 and on-site in Washington D.C. from Feb 18-22. I participated in a variety of conference events and had the wonderful opportunity to present alongside a former student, Adama Samura, who joined virtually from Sierra Leone. This blog includes a message from Adama about her experiences presenting at CIES 2023, our presentation slides, and a video recording of Adama’s presentation.

The feeling I got during and after the presentation was great and awesome.

Dear Mrs. Kelly,

Thank you very much for the opportunity you gave me to take part in this presentation. It's a great opportunity and I consider it as a blessing because among millions of students I was chosen to present right by your side on a very special topic like this. The feeling I got during and after the presentation was great and awesome. I can't explain it but it was great and am happy that I was part of it. Thanks very much ma'am.

And it's all possible because you believed in me. It feels really good when you have someone who believes in you and always tell you that "You can do it. I trust you. I know you can do it"

I really do appreciate you ma'am.

Adama

During the time of COVID19, a lot of students repeated. Some of them decided to find another school, some got pregnant, some became mothers, and then some just stayed at home to do business. Some got married at a very young age.
